Gas/Water/Sewer Service

Gas Department

The HUB Gas Department distributes natural gas to residents and businesses in Roane and Morgan counties. Personnel are trained and certified in personal and public safety by HUB’s full-time Safety Director.

Proper training and equipment assure public safety. In addition to routine repairs and customer service, the Gas Department conducts annual leak detection surveys.

Water Department

HUB provides drinking water to residents in Roane and Morgan Counties. Highly trained, state certified operators at the Harriman Water Plant treat approximately 2 million gallons each day. These qualified workers, under the supervision of a staff environmental engineer, monitor and test water to assure its safety and clarity.

Maintenance workers with State Water Distribution Certifications are available 24 hours a day to assure delivery of high quality water to homes and businesses.

Sewer Department

Harriman Utility Board is doing major rehabilitation of the sewer system through grants and loans secured from the state and federal government as well as funds from its annual operating budget. Work has completed on the upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and 16 of HUB’s 18 major pumping stations. During times of heavy flow, the WWTP will be able to handle surges of up to 5 million gallons a day.

Personnel at the WWTP are State Certified Class IV Operators (Class IV being the highest). After treatment, water clarity and oxygen content of the water leaving the WWTP exceeds the quality of the river water into which it flows.

Maintenance personnel are State Certified Collection Specialists who are available 24 hours a day. Each day crews of specialists survey the collection system looking for system leaks and monitor pump stations.

Lead and Copper Testing....

ATTENTION HUB WATER CUSTOMERS!!! HUB is seeking volunteers to add to our regular sampling pool for lead and copper testing. We’ve had some homes drop off the list over the years due to having new lead-free plumbing installed or the home being abandoned/demolished. To qualify you must have either a lead service line (see pdf by clicking on the link) or copper plumbing that was installed between 1983 and 1986.

NO Water Violations

We have received some phone calls regarding water quality in response to a nearby water system's recent public notice of a drinking water violation for exceeding the EPA's maximum contaminant level (MCL) for Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs). We want to assure our customers that we do not have any current violations in our drinking water system and are continuing to meet the MCL for TTHMs and all other EPA mandated contaminants.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has issued a new regulation that requires the Harriman Utility Board (HUB) to offer an Excess Flow Valve (EFV) to its existing gas customers.
